Insights into Water Tank Repair: Common Issues and Practical Solutions
Water tank repair often goes unnoticed until a serious problem occurs. With timely action and a professional assessment, most issues can be fixed early, preventing bigger disruptions. At Magtech General, our experienced team has completed many repair and rectification projects across Singapore. We help clients avoid costly tank replacements through accurate diagnosis and efficient solutions.
1. Common Accessory Failures: Ball Float Valves & Gate Valves
Ball float valve issues are among the most common problems we encounter. A faulty valve often causes tank overflows, leading to water wastage or structural damage. In some cases, our team can adjust the valve for a quick and affordable fix instead of a full replacement.
However, when the valve is badly corroded and beyond repair, we recommend a full replacement to restore proper function and prevent repeated failures. Gate valves can also become stuck or start leaking, so we always check them during maintenance inspections.
These issues are usually easy to identify and affordable to resolve. However, pricing varies depending on the accessory’s brand and size, which can affect cost significantly.

2. FRP Panel Leaks and Structural Damage
Leaking FRP panels are another common issue, especially in tanks over 15 years old. These leaks often result from corroded or broken bolts and nuts, or cracked panels caused by long-term wear. Spotting the exact cause requires an experienced team and a detailed on-site inspection.
Our specialists regularly identify specific leak points and offer targeted repair solutions that avoid full tank replacement. If the damage spreads across multiple sections or compromises the tank’s structure, a full replacement may be the most practical option.
In some cases, tank partitions may get damaged during rectification or cleaning. When that happens, clients often engage us to replace the affected partition panels as part of the repair works.

3. Rooftop Tank Exposure and Top Panel Failures
Rooftop tanks or those exposed directly to sun and rain often face issues with their top panels. This is especially common in older tanks or units made with low-quality materials. Over time, exposure causes the panels to deform or fail.
These problems lead to water collecting on the tank cover. Standing water can attract mosquitoes or, in worse cases, weaken the tank and cause partial collapse or leaks.
We assess each case individually to find the most practical solution. For HDG or steel tanks, where a full replacement may be too costly, we may recommend changing just the tank cover and support structure. However, this method doesn’t work well for FRP tanks due to their material limitations.
4. Professional Inspection Makes the Difference
Effective water tank repair starts with a proper inspection. Our experienced professionals don’t just fix surface issues—they evaluate the entire system to identify the root cause and propose long-term solutions that suit your budget.
With years of hands-on experience, we support building owners, MCSTs, and facility managers in keeping their water tanks safe and operational. Our goal is to help you prevent unplanned shutdowns and extend the life of your tank system.
