Magtech General Construction & Trading Pte Ltd supplied and installed three FRP (GRP) sectional panel water tanks for a landed housing development at 2511 Old Tampines Road, Singapore. The new semi-detached houses were being built by a single main contractor, a long-standing partner of Magtech, who engaged us to install the domestic water tanks for the whole development rather than house by house.

Three tanks were installed across the houses: two of 1m x 1m x 1m (H) and one of 1m x 1m x 1.5m (H), each on its own galvanised skid base on a concrete plinth. Every tank was assembled from SS245 grade FRP panels in position and fitted with a manhole, air vent, tube level indicator and, where the height calls for it, an external HDG access ladder with handrails.
The tanks went in while the houses were still under construction, with the main contractor’s scaffolding in place around the site. Working inside a live construction site meant the tank installation had to fit around other trades: the sectional panels were carried in by hand, each tank bolted together on its plinth and connected, and every tank filled and checked for leaks before handover.
On a multi-house landed development the main contractor wants one tank specification, one supplier and one installation team, not a different arrangement at every house. Because the contractor already knew Magtech’s work, all three tanks were placed with us and installed to the same standard, which keeps the plumbing, the handover documents and the future servicing consistent across the development.
The tanks went in before the houses were finished, so access, storage of panels and the work sequence were agreed with the main contractor. Panels were carried through the scaffold by hand; no craneage was needed.
Each tank was filled to its working level and checked for leaks at the panel joints and flange connections before the site was cleaned and handed back to the contractor.
On a new landed house the water tank is one of the last items to go in and one of the first the owner will depend on every day. When several houses are going up together, the main contractor carries that responsibility for all of them, and a tank partner who turns up on programme and installs every unit the same way is worth more than a cheaper quote for each house. FRP sectional tanks suit this stage of a build: the panels are light enough to carry through scaffolding, the tank goes together on the plinth without lifting equipment, and the finished tank will not corrode in domestic water service. Getting the size, base and connections right at this point avoids rework after the plumbing is closed in.
With over 35 years of experience and more than 4,000 water tanks installed across Asia, Magtech continues to deliver FRP water tank installation for landed homes, housing developments and main contractors across Singapore.
