Find quick answers to common questions about Magtech’s water tank solutions, including installation, replacement, repair, tank types, fire protection applications, compliance, and project requirements across Singapore and Asia.

1. General information

Magtech General provides a comprehensive range of modular panel water storage solutions, including FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic), GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic), Pressed Steel (HDG), and Stainless Steel (SS304 and SS316) water tanks.

Our tanks are designed for a wide variety of applications, including fire protection, domestic water storage, make-up water systems, and rainwater storage. Each tank is built to recognised standards with the appropriate certifications to back it up.

Please note that our team specialises in modular panel tanks. Concrete tanks and round/cylindrical tanks are outside our scope of works.

With over 35 years of expertise in the water tank industry, Magtech General offers end-to-end solutions — from supply and installation to replacement, repair, and maintenance.

Our dedicated in-house installation team brings decades of hands-on experience across a wide range of project types and site conditions. We source only high-quality tanks and are committed to delivering durable, reliable solutions built for long-term performance.

We also offer free site consultations and assessments for all enquiries within our scope of works.

Magtech General operates across Singapore and Asia. We have our own installation and sales teams based in Singapore and Cambodia. In the Philippines, we work with a trusted local team and primarily supply tanks for their projects.

If you have a project outside these regions, feel free to reach out and we will do our best to assist or recommend the right contacts.

Yes. Our experienced team provides free consultations for all water tank projects within our scope of works. We assess key factors such as intended use, site conditions, tank size, capacity requirements, and applicable standards before recommending the most suitable tank type and material.

We provide free site visits for clients who require a more in-depth assessment at no cost.

In addition to supply, installation, replacement, and repair of water tanks, we also offer:

  • Water tank cleaning and inspection (currently for landed private properties only)
  • Painting and surface treatments
  • General maintenance works
  • Temporary tank solutions during replacement or repair works

For services outside our current scope, such as PUB annual certification cleaning, we are happy to recommend trusted partners from our network.

Based on our experience, a well-maintained FRP/GRP water tank typically lasts around 15 to 20 years before issues such as leakage or material degradation begin to appear. Steel tanks (HDG or stainless steel) may offer a slightly longer lifespan, though they generally come at a higher initial cost.

These estimates apply to premium-quality tanks that are properly installed and regularly maintained. Factors such as environmental conditions, water quality, and maintenance practices will all affect the actual service life of your tank.

2. Tank Types & Materials

FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) and GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) tanks are the same material referred to by different names. They are significantly more affordable than steel tanks and are easier to maintain, making them the most common choice for general water storage applications in Singapore.

Steel tanks — whether HDG pressed steel or stainless steel — are typically heavier-duty, may offer a longer service life, and are often required for specific applications such as fire protection systems. However, they come at a higher cost.

We are happy to go through the options with you in more detail — feel free to contact us.

Both are stainless steel, but they serve different purposes:

  • SS316 is suitable for potable (drinking) water storage. In Singapore, only SS316 and FRP/GRP tanks comply with standards for drinking water use.
  • SS304 is suitable for non-potable water storage and fire protection applications. It is a more cost-effective option and is widely used for industrial and commercial water storage.

If your water is not for drinking purposes, SS304 is generally the more practical and economical choice. If drinking water compliance is required, SS316 is the appropriate option.

Yes. Our HDG pressed steel tanks are SS22 approved, which is the standard required for fire protection water tanks in Singapore under SCDF requirements. They are suitable for sprinkler systems, hosereel systems, and wet riser systems.

Please note that while we supply and install SS22-compliant tanks, we do not handle the SCDF submission process directly. If you require end-to-end support including regulatory submissions, we can connect you with our trusted partners who specialise in this.

Yes. We offer insulated FRP/GRP water tanks for applications where temperature control of stored water is important. Contact us to find out if an insulated tank is suitable for your requirements.

3. Tank Installation

For new installation projects, it helps to have the following ready:

  • Tank dimensions and intended capacity
  • Tank material (FRP/GRP, HDG pressed steel, or stainless steel)
  • For steel tanks: the fittings required
  • As-built drawings, where available

The more detail you can provide upfront, the more accurate your quotation will be. If you are unsure about any of these, our team is happy to guide you through the process.

The installation timeline varies depending on the tank size, type, and site conditions. Our sales team will provide a rough estimate during the planning stage. Once works are confirmed and a site assessment is completed, we will prepare a detailed schedule including a Gantt chart to outline each stage of the project.

Yes — we work with all types of clients. Whether you are a building owner, facility manager, MCST, main contractor, or developer, we are able to assist you as long as your project falls within our scope of works.

4. Tank Replacement

We specialise in replacing modular panel water tanks, including:

  • FRP/GRP water tanks
  • HDG (hot-dip galvanised) pressed steel tanks
  • Stainless steel tanks (SS304 and SS316)

These are commonly used for domestic water storage, fire protection, make-up water systems, and non-potable applications.

We do not carry out replacement works for concrete tanks or round/cylindrical tanks.

We offer several solutions to minimise water supply disruption during replacement works, including temporary tank systems, bypass systems, and compartment-by-compartment replacement.

Which approach is most suitable depends on your existing tank setup and site conditions — which is why a site inspection is an important first step before any replacement project. Our team will plan the works carefully to keep disruption to a minimum.

Replacement timelines vary significantly depending on the size and type of the existing tank. Sectional panel tanks can differ greatly in configuration, which affects the schedule. Our team will provide a detailed timeline after completing the site assessment.

5. Tank Repair

We provide free consultations and site assessments for all modular water tank repair enquiries. In most cases, we will first ask for photos or videos of the tank to assess the condition and determine whether a site visit is required.

Our team will then advise on the most suitable course of action. Where repair is feasible, we will always recommend it as the more cost-effective option compared to full replacement.

Common signs that your tank may need repair or assessment include visible leakage, water stains or rust on the exterior panels, unusual odour or discolouration in the water, or a tank that is approaching or exceeding its expected service life (typically 15–20 years for FRP/GRP tanks).

If you notice any of these, contact us for a free assessment. Do not attempt to diagnose or repair the tank yourself, as improper repairs can worsen the damage.

Yes. We provide 24/7 support for urgent situations such as major leaks or structural concerns.

In cases of severe damage or significant leakage, we will first advise you to shut off the water supply immediately to prevent further damage. If required, we can arrange a temporary water tank system as soon as the next day to ensure continuity of water supply.

Please note that emergency works may be subject to additional charges. For urgent assistance, contact our 24/7 representative at +65 8700 1377.

This depends on the type and extent of repairs required. For works that can be carried out externally, there is typically no disruption to the water supply. However, internal repairs or panel replacements may require one compartment — or in some cases the entire tank — to be taken offline.

Our team will plan and execute works efficiently to minimise disruption. Where necessary, we can also provide temporary water tank solutions to maintain supply throughout the repair period.

Yes. All repair works come with warranty coverage for workmanship, subject to the scope and conditions of the project. The warranty applies to the repaired or replaced components and does not extend to the entire tank.

6. Pricing & Warranty

We are unable to provide standard ballpark quotes due to the wide variation in tank sizes, types, site conditions, and project requirements. However, we are happy to provide a proper quotation for your project as long as you contact us with the relevant information — even if the project is at the budgetary planning stage and not yet confirmed.

For replacement and repair projects, a site visit is usually required for an accurate quotation.

Our standard warranty covers:

  • Manufacturing defects: 2 years from the date of tank completion
  • Workmanship (Defects Liability Period): 1 year from the date of completion of installation

Warranty terms may be reviewed and adjusted upon mutual agreement depending on project requirements.
