Magtech General Construction & Trading Pte Ltd successfully completed the replacement of two (2) units of Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP/GRP) water tanks at AIA Tower, Singapore. This project involved domestic water usage within an existing building, requiring careful planning and execution due to site and access constraints.
The replacement works included one (1) unit measuring (2m + 4m) x 2m x 2m (H), and another unit with a base area of 40 sqm and a height of 3m. Due to space limitations on site, one of the tanks was designed with an irregular (odd-shaped) configuration to fit the available footprint. This demonstrates the flexibility of sectional panel tank systems, which can be customised to suit non-standard layouts.
Working within a confined rooftop environment presented several challenges, including limited access, restricted working space especially for the odd-shape water tank, and the need to coordinate dismantling and installation efficiently. Despite these constraints, our team planned the works carefully to ensure smooth execution without compromising safety or quality.
Our scope of work included the dismantling of existing tanks, as well as the supply and installation of new FRP sectional panel tanks. This covered the assembly of the base structure, side panels, roof structure, internal reinforcements, and all necessary accessories. The replacement was carried out efficiently, with minimal disruption to the building’s daily operations.
The FRP tanks were designed in accordance with SS245, ensuring compliance with Singapore standards for sectional water tanks. Their corrosion resistance and lightweight properties make them well-suited for replacement projects, particularly in buildings where structural loading and access constraints are key considerations.
This project highlights Magtech’s capability in handling complex replacement works, including installations within confined spaces and customised tank configurations. With over 35 years of experience and more than 4,000 water tanks installed across Asia, we continue to deliver practical and reliable solutions even in challenging site conditions.
