Changi Terminal 1
Replacement Project

Changi Terminal 1

A major replacement project was carried out at Changi Terminal 1, Singapore in 2026, involving the installation of a Hot-Dipped Galvanized (HDG) pressed steel sectional water tank.

PROJECT INFORMATION

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The installed tank measures (7.32m + 8.54m) x 6.1m x 2.44m (H), complete with a bottom sump configuration to support operational requirements. As a critical infrastructure site, works at Changi required strict adherence to safety, security clearance, and operational protocols throughout the project.

Given the high-security environment, all installation activities had to be carefully planned and coordinated, including manpower deployment, material movement, and site access arrangements. Compliance with Changi’s stringent safety and permit requirements was a key aspect of the project execution.

Our scope included the dismantling of the existing tank and the full installation of the new HDG sectional tank, comprising the base structure, panels, roof components, internal reinforcements, and all necessary fittings. The works were carried out efficiently while maintaining full compliance with site regulations and safety standards.

This project stands as one of Magtech’s flagship replacement works in recent years, demonstrating our capability to deliver complex installations within highly regulated environments. With an experienced in-house installation team, we are able to adapt to strict site requirements while ensuring quality and reliability.

  • Sprinkler water storage restored for a critical infrastructure site

Our Approach

1. Security Clearance and Access Planning

Changi Terminal 1 is a critical infrastructure site. Manpower, material movement and site access were all planned and cleared in advance so that works could proceed without interrupting terminal operations.

2. Dismantling of the Existing Tank

The existing sprinkler tank was dismantled and removed under controlled conditions, with all material movement scheduled around the airport’s operational and permit requirements.

3. Installation of the New HDG Sectional Tank

The new tank was installed complete with its base structure, side panels, roof components and internal reinforcements, including a bottom sump configuration to support operational requirements.

4. Testing and Reinstatement

The completed tank was checked and reinstated for service, restoring sprinkler water storage for the terminal.

Why This Matters

Replacing a sprinkler tank on a live airport site is as much a coordination job as an installation job. Security clearance, permit systems and restricted material movement all have to be planned before any work starts, and the sprinkler system cannot be left out of service longer than agreed.

With over 35 years of experience and more than 4,000 water tanks installed across Asia, Magtech continues to deliver pressed steel water tank replacement for critical infrastructure sites in Singapore.
