Magtech General Construction & Trading Pte Ltd carried out an FRP water tank repair at 8 Novena Drive, Singapore, replacing a single cracked side panel on a make-up water tank.
A leak had been reported, and our team attended site to trace it.
The inspection found a crack in one panel. Only that panel was affected, and the rest of the tank – the surrounding panels, the framework and the internal fittings – was sound. On its own that is good news, because it meant a full tank replacement could be avoided.
The complication was where the cracked panel sat. It was the lowest tier side panel, at the bottom of the tank wall, which carries the greatest head of water and sits underneath every panel above it. A panel in that position cannot simply be unbolted and swapped. The sections above it had to be carefully taken down first, the cracked panel released and replaced, and the tank then rebuilt in the correct sequence. That is work for experienced technicians rather than a straightforward part swap.
Our team attended site to trace the reported leak and inspected the tank to establish where the water was escaping. The source was a crack in a single side panel.
The cracked panel was in the lowest tier of the tank wall. That position carries the greatest water pressure and sits beneath the panels above it, so replacing it meant partially dismantling the tank rather than removing one panel in isolation.
The tank was drained and the sections above the affected panel were taken down in a controlled sequence, so that the surrounding panels, seals and fixings were not damaged in the process. The cracked panel was then removed and a matching replacement installed.
The dismantled sections were rebuilt in the correct order, joints resealed and fixings re-tightened. The tank was refilled and checked for leaks, and the working area was cleaned down before handover.
A cracked panel does not always mean a new tank, but where the panel sits changes the job completely. A crack in an upper panel can often be reached with very little disturbance. The lowest tier is different: it carries the full head of water and every panel above it rests on that line, so the tank has to be partially taken down and then rebuilt correctly before it can hold water again.
Getting that sequence right, without damaging the panels and seals that are still perfectly good, is what separates a one-panel repair from a job that turns into a full replacement. It is the reason this kind of work goes to installers who have done it before.
