Project Type: Water Tank Cover Replacement & Structural Roof Support Renewal
Magtech General Construction & Trading Pte Ltd successfully completed the replacement of the roof covers, support trusses, and structural stays for an existing odd-shaped sprinkler water tank at AMA Building, Singapore.
While complete tank replacement is often the preferred long-term solution for ageing steel tanks, many building owners face budget constraints and may not be ready to undertake a full tank replacement immediately. In this project, the existing sprinkler tank remained structurally serviceable, but the roof covers had deteriorated significantly due to corrosion after years of exposure to the environment.
The tank featured an irregular (odd-shaped) configuration, making the replacement works more complex than a standard rectangular tank. Due to the unique layout, the roof structure, support trusses, and stays required careful assessment and measurement to ensure that all replacement components matched the existing tank geometry.
The severe corrosion had resulted in multiple openings and weakened sections within the roof covers. These openings posed several concerns, including the risk of insect and pest ingress, mosquito breeding, contamination from external debris, and rainwater entering the tank during heavy rainfall. Addressing these issues was important to maintain the integrity and reliability of the sprinkler water storage system.
To provide a practical and cost-effective solution, our team assisted the main contractor by replacing the entire roof cover system together with the supporting trusses and stays. By focusing on the most severely affected components, the client was able to rectify the existing issues and extend the service life of the tank without the significantly higher cost associated with a complete tank replacement.
